AMS 720 – Level 1 Thermographer – Principal Surveyor, Consultant, Investigator & Close Protection Officer
Ray is a British national, who has immense experience operating out of the Caribbean, Greece and Spain. He commenced his career with the Merchant Navy following a short marine small craft engineering apprenticeship on shore and served with several large shipping companies on both home and overseas trading routes.
In the 1970s he was initially employed in Greece as first mate and later as skipper and engineer, on various types of private and commercial yachts operating in the Mediterranean and Caribbean Sea areas.
In 1975 after nine years at sea Ray joined the British Police Service, serving 12 years with the Humberside Police and at times attached to the Metropolitan Police in London, he served 10 years as a detective in the C.I.D during which time he was attached to the Anti-terrorist Squad and seconded to No. 3 Regional Crime Squad investigating serious crimes nationwide. During this period Ray was instrumental in solving many notorious cases and was commended on several occasions by the courts and Chief Constables. In the course of his duties Ray was particularly trained in investigation techniques, surveillance and the use of tactical firearms.
In 1987, Ray resigned from the Police service on family grounds with an exemplary record and moved to Greece where until 1993 he worked as principal marine surveyor with an Anglo/Greek company, dealing with insurance casualties. In October 1993, he set up Ray Ashton & Associates in Glyfada, Greece where he continues to maintain a presence in the form of a satellite office.
Ray is an approved qualified surveyor with the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors by training and examination and is an experienced and qualified Yacht Master and Yacht Engineer with specialised qualifications on General Motors Detroit Diesels and MAN marine diesel engines. He is also a diver, life-saver and trained in fire fighting theory, practice and installation of systems. Ray is a member of the Royal Yachting Association.
Ray is a trained investigator and is a full member of the International Association of Marine Investigators, certified upon completion of training courses in Southampton, United Kingdom and Nashville, Tennessee, U.S.A. He is also a member of the Association of British Investigators, The World Association of Detectives and the World Association of Private Investigators.
Ray is a Level 1 Thermographer, having attended a residential training course in UK, in relation to Infrared image surveys, for use in both marine and non-marine applications. Ray is a fluent speaker of the Greek language and has a moderate and verbal understanding of Spanish.
Ray Ashton is a qualified, highly experienced and time served Marine Yacht Surveyor, (AMS 720), having been a full AMS member of the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMS) following examination, since 2001.

Appointed by many international insurance Underwriters and syndicates at Lloyds full time over a 31 year period, involving approximately 3,300 yacht claims which include multi-million values in total losses and over 2,000 condition and valuation surveys for private individuals, finance houses, banks and corporate entities.

Amanda has been involved in marine insurance work since 1991 when she joined a British based company in Greece. From inception of Ray Ashton & Associates in 1993, she has maintained the administrative co-ordination of all the offices. Amanda has attended a residential training course in UK in relation to Infrared image surveys for use with both marine and non-marine applications.
Amanda became a full member of the International Association of Marine Investigators, certified upon completion of training courses in Southampton, United Kingdom and Nashville, Tennessee, U.S.A.
Amanda is an experienced investigator and speaks Greek fluently with a moderate understanding of Spanish.
The company has a complement of personnel and associates, all of whom are highly experienced in the Yachting industry, be it specialising in claims and/or condition and valuation surveys, project management or technical skills.
